Verstopt in het zuidoosten van Friesland ligt de Rottige Meente, een moerasachtig en uitgestrekt laagveengebied vol smalle slootjes en rietvelden. We besloten op een ietwat frisse maar droge lentemiddag onze laarzen thuis te laten en het pad toch te verkennen op onze wandelschoenen. Vanaf de kleine parkeerplaats bij de Pieter Stuyvesantweg sta je meteen midden in de natuur. Het pad leidt je over houten bruggetjes en langs langgerekte waterpartijen. Ook wandel je over onverharde paden die bij ons droog waren, maar bij nat weer waarschijnlijk fijner zijn met een paar laarzen aan!<\/span><\/p>\n

De route is gemarkeerd met rode paaltjes \u2013 let op, want dat is belangrijk. Wij raakten op een bepaald moment de weg kwijt omdat we zonder erbij na te denken een roze paaltje volgden. Volgens mij was dat gewoon een vervaagd rood paaltje, maar dit bleek helaas niet zo te zijn. Gelukkig kwamen we vanzelf weer uit waar we begonnen waren, door de gpx die we vooraf hadden gedownload.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wat ons vooral opviel was de rust in dit gebied. Geen verkeer, weinig andere wandelaars \u2013 alleen het ritselen van het riet, het geplons van een eend en in de verte de roep van een roerdomp.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Onderweg is er geen horeca of bankje, er zijn genoeg plekjes langs het water waar je even zou kunnen neerploffen met een thermosflesje thee. Het is geen picknickwandeling. Het Hooggelegen Bospad is echt een hele leuke route door een mooi en bijzonder bos. Het is af en toe even ploeteren om het juiste pad te vinden, maar als het lukt is het het zeker waard. Het is er echt prachtig! Maar ook weinig afwisselend. Na vijf kilometer had ik het wel een beetje gezien en moest ik langs een fietspad terug naar huis, dat was even wat minder.<\/p>\n
