Ergens in het midden van de bosrijke Utrechtse Heuvelrug ligt Recreatiegebied het Henschotermeer verborgen. In de warmste maanden van het jaar een plek om te vertoeven wanneer de mussen van het dak vallen, in de koudste maanden van het jaar vooral een rustig gebied waar je terecht kunt voor een wandeling. Dit laatste kan je om het water doen en is 2,5 kilometer lang. Volgens hun eigen website is het \u201cmeer dan een mooi meer\u201d, dat moesten wij natuurlijk even testen. We liepen deze route op een avond in maart, een uurtje voordat de zon onderging. Gelukkig net op tijd, want een uur voor zonsondergang sluit de toegang!\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>We werden direct getrakteerd op een mooi plaatje: het water waar wat eendjes ronddobberden, omringd door zand en op de achtergrond dennenbomen. Het hielp ook mee dat wij de enige twee mensen waren. Na een kodakmomentje riep ik dat ik echt geen zin had om de hele route door mul zand te moeten ploeteren, maar toen wees Violet me op het asfaltpad, dat we vervolgens braaf op liepen.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Na een stuk te hebben gewandeld met het stille water aan de rechterhand en de hoge bomen aan de linkerhand, kwamen we uit bij een brug die je naar een eiland midden op het water brengt. Het eilandje loopt een stukje omhoog, met bovenaan een bankje dat een prachtig uitzicht over het meer biedt. We liepen een klein rondje over het eilandje om vervolgens over de brug weer naar het vasteland te gaan.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Naast hoge dennenbomen zijn er ook 11 eiken te spotten, die in 1948 door de familie De Beaufort zijn geplant, ter nagedachtenis aan de 11 bevrijde provincies aan het eind van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. In 2020 is er een grote kei bij geplaatst, ter ere van 75 jaar bevrijding.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Behalve het water waar je in de zomer heerlijk kunt poedelen en het herdenkingsmonument, zijn er rond het meer voldoende plekken om even naar het toilet te gaan of wat te drinken of eten te halen.
