In Wolfheze, een natuurgebied net buiten Arnhem, vind je eeuwenoude bossen, glooiende heidevelden in combinatie met een rijke historie. Je kan hier sporen vinden van beschaving die duizenden jaren teruggaan, zoals eeuwenoude karrensporen en grafheuvels uit de nieuwe steentijd en bronstijd. De route die we volgden, gemarkeerd met blauwe pijltjes, is 4,3 kilometer. Voor wie dit te lang is, is er ook een kortere variant van 3,6 kilometer gemarkeerd met gele pijltjes. Vanaf de parkeerplaats liepen we meteen de bossen in. Het pad slingerde al snel tussen hoge beuken en eiken door en het zonlicht scheen door de bomen, wat een prachtig gezicht was. We hadden het gevoel alsof we steeds dieper een sprookjesbos in liepen. Het licht glooiende paadje liep een paar honderd meter door over bruggetjes waaronder een beekje kabbelde.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Na een kilometer kwamen we bij de Wodanseiken, eeuwenoude bomen met dikke stammen. We vonden dit deel van de wandeling wat verwarrend, omdat we vanaf een bepaald punt de parkeerplaats al konden zien en het idee kregen dat we dichter bij de weg liepen dan we hadden gehoopt. Het haalde ons even uit de rust, maar gelukkig liep het pad\u00a0 weer verder van de beschaving af en waren we weer snel in de gezellige juiste stemming.<\/span><\/p>\n

We kwamen op een open heide, waar het pad tussendoor slingerde. Op deze heide ligt de grootste grafheuvel uit de omgeving; de Koningsheuvel. De naam verwijst naar de rijke grafuitrusting, die bestond uit onder andere een dolk en een stenen polsbeschemer. Na een stevige wandeling kwamen we uiteindelijk terug bij het startpunt. Hoewel de route officieel 4,3 kilometer is, stond er toch 6 kilometer op mijn sporthorloge, dus de route was langer dan aangegeven. Het was ook jammer dat we op een stuk dicht bij de weg liepen en de parkeerplaats al konden zien, wat een beetje afdeed aan het gevoel van rust en afgezonderdheid. Toch biedt Wolfheze meer dan genoeg moois: prachtige bossen, glooiende heide en een stukje historie. <\/span><\/p>\n
