Tussen de oude boulevard en het strand van Hoek van Holland ligt een jong duingebied, de Van Dixhoorndriehoek. In het ene deel van het gebied groeien duindoorns, in het andere deel kunnen duinen weer stuiven en mogen wandelaars vrij rondstruinen door het stuifzandgebied. Hier groeien bijzondere planten, zoals parnassia, gentiaan en orchidee\u00ebn en vind je vlinders, vogels en zandhagedissen. Wij wilden dat rondstruinen weleens proberen en parkeerden op een warme dag in september de auto aan de Schelpenpadweg. Het eerste deel van de route bracht ons door de beloofde duinvallei waar je kon zien dat de natuur haar gang heeft kunnen gaan. Links en rechts van het pad groeiden planten en struiken en ik zei tegen Violet dat ik blij was dat ik ondanks de warmte een lange broek had aangetrokken, omdat de takken langs m\u2019n benen streken. De zon scheen flink en we snakten naar verkoeling. Uiteindelijk vonden we schaduw in de vorm van wat hogere struiken maar helaas was dit van korte duur.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Toen we rechtsaf waren geslagen zagen we aan onze linkerhand de gentiaan. Vlinders, bijen en libellen vlogen langs ons en zochten een plekje op de paarse bloemen. Aan de rechterkant lag een open, drassig veld. Een van de uitgediepte poelen, bleek later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Na een stukje over het drassige pad te hebben geploeterd, kwamen we op een verhard pad uit, eigenlijk een stoep die langs een fietspad lag. Omdat het een mooie dag was, kwamen we dan ook veel fietsers tegen. We hoopten dat het pad wel weer het duingebied zou inslaan, want we vonden het toch wel jammer om langs een fietspad zonder beschutting te wandelen. Gelukkig liep de route weer het duingebied in, langs nog meer duindoorns en bomen waar we onder konden schuilen tegen de zon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Toen we de wandeling vervolgden, werd het ons duidelijk dat het volgende deel weer langs het drukke fietspad zou lopen en waren we wel een beetje klaar met de warmte en drukte. De rest van de wandeling liep langs stuivende duinen waar de doornappel groeit. Op dit deel van de route werd het zand muller, iets waar we niet echt meer op zaten te wachten. We waren enthousiast over het deel van de route dat ons door het jonge gebied bracht, waar de vogels, vlinders en planten hun gang kunnen gaan. De route bracht ons dicht langs de natuur, maar de constante stroom aan fietsers en het geluid van de weg maakten het lastig om echt op te gaan in de rust waar we op hadden gehoopt.
