In Zierikzee, op het Zeeuwse eiland Schouwen-Duiveland, start een bijzondere wandelroute. In deze kleine tien kilometer maak je niet alleen kennis met dit pittoreske vestingstadje, maar struin je door de haven, langs de dijk en het water en door het natuurgebied Levensstrijd. Met een beetje geluk zie je hier, afhankelijk van het seizoen, een smient, wintertaling, grutto, zilverplevier of een kanoetstrandloper. De route start in de haven van Zierikzee waar je boten en schepen ziet, zo ver als het oog reikt. Als je dan uiteindelijk de haven uitloopt en over de zee uitkijkt, ben je aangekomen op de plek waar je het beste bruinvissen kunt zien (en het is echt een heerlijke plek om met je thermoskannetje neer te strijken). Als je heel lang naar de zee tuurt, dan zie je ze vanzelf door het water glijden.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Daarna loop je een heel lang stuk langs de zee en de dijk. Heel af en toe steekt er een zeehondjes z\u2019n snoet boven het water uit. Vergeet ook niet af en toe even op de dijk te gaan staan om even het land in te kijken. Het is een bijzonder gebied, niet alleen vanwege de hoeveelheid vogels, maar zeker ook als je op de achtergrond de Zeelandbrug open ziet gaan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>In de eeuwige strijd tegen het water, werd het natuurgebied langs het water afgegraven om de dijken op te hogen. Tussen de binnendijk en de vernieuwde dijk ontstond een zogenoemde inlaag. Vanwege de natte en zilte grond hadden de boeren het hier ongekend zwaar. Wij hebben hem zelfs twee keer gelopen: een keer in de gure herfst en in de volle zonnige zomer.
