Bij landgoed Haarzuilens vind je het Wielrevelt, waar al meer dan 2000 jaar mensen leven. Je kan het rijke verleden van deze plek ontdekken tijdens het historisch beleefpad van 3,06 km. Natuurmonumenten doet zijn best om dit oude landschap in ere te herstellen, en dat is te zien.\u00a0<\/p>\n

De route kan je starten vanaf Hoeve Wielrevelt, waar je voor of na je wandeling kan neerstrijken voor een kopje koffie. Wij begonnen de route echter aan de overkant, vanaf parkeerplaats Wielrevelt. Let op: deze is alleen gratis voor leden van natuurmonumenten. De route is niet gemarkeerd, maar staat aangegeven op een niet interactief kaartje in een pdf. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Met een opgeladen telefoon stapten we op een zomeravond in juni uit en gingen we op zoek naar het beginpunt van de wandeling. Al snel moesten we het kaartje erbij pakken, want het begin stond nergens aangegeven. Toen we deze eenmaal hadden gevonden, kon de wandeling echt beginnen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Het eerste deel van de route, of eigenlijk het laatste deel omdat wij hem achterstevoren liepen, bracht ons over een zandpad met links en rechts struiken. We hoorden niks behalve de tjilpende vogeltjes, een goed begin dus. Met links water waar een zwaan dobberde en een reiger op een hekje zat en rechts een appelboomgaard met hier en daar resten van de oude kasteelmuren nog onder de grond, was deze wandeling nu al prachtig.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span>Aan het eind van het zandpad pakten we het kaartje er weer bij en we waren het er over eens dat we rechtdoor en daarna een keer naar links moesten. Na het stuk rechtdoor, waarbij we nog meer gezellige eendjes en een ouderwets houten bruggetje zagen, begonnen we toch te twijfelen of we wel goed gingen. Weer werd het kaartje tevoorschijn getoverd en we kwamen erachter dat we niet rechtdoor hadden moeten gaan, maar toch al linksaf. Snel liepen we terug alsnog de goede richting op.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We liepen een pad op dat ons door een groot veld leidde met uitzicht op een torentje, waarvan we eigenlijk nog steeds niet weten of deze bij het kasteel hoorde. Dit pad was ook een stukje kerkpad, een pad tussen de kerken van Vleuten en Haarzuilens in. We zagen een groot kompas waarop te zien is hoe ver de kerken vanaf dit punt liggen. Links van het pad zagen we een fazant struinen en een stukje verderop waren hazen aan het rondspringen in het veld. We vonden het alleen maar gezellig dat die diertjes er vertoefden en maakten de nodige filmpjes en foto\u2019s. We hoopten stiekem dat het pad ons nu wel langs dat kasteel zou voeren, maar we moesten de andere kant op, waar we een beetje van baalden. Langs het pad ligt een soort trap met verschillende tijdvakken die aangeven hoe belangrijk deze zijn geweest in de archeologische geschiedenis van het Wielrevelt. Er is hier voor gekozen het bodemarchief te behouden, wat betekent dat er geen opgravingen plaatsvinden.<\/span><\/p>\n

Na het veld liepen we via een bruggetje het water over langs nog een veld met een rijke agrarische geschiedenis tot we bij het eindpunt, of dus eigenlijk het beginpunt uitkwamen. Onze sporthorloges verraadden dat we toch wel een stukje verkeerd waren gelopen, wat kwam doordat het kaartje onduidelijk was met nauwelijks herkenbare punten. Ook waren we een beetje teleurgesteld dat we niks van het kasteel hadden gezien, maar ondanks dat was het een mooie wandeling.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
